Kyocera has signed up to the 10:10 carbon commitment and we are urging all of our Green Card members to do the same.
The 10:10 project is an independent campaign to reduce the UK’s carbon emissions by 10% during 2010. This is in line with climate scientists’ calculations of the emissions reduction needed in the next 18 months to prevent runaway climate change.
Tracey Rawling Church, Director of Brand and Reputation at Kyocera UK said: “Kyocera believes that the 10:10 campaign represents a straightforward target for individuals, businesses and public sector organisations. The beauty of it is that it is an easily understood concept which promises quantifiable results which, in climate change terms, are almost immediate. We are delighted to be part of the campaign and will be actively promoting it to our business partners and customers.”
Kyocera recognises that it has a direct responsibility as a producer of electronic office equipment to reduce the impact of its products in design, manufacture and disposal, and an indirect responsibility to reduce their impact during use by customers. To support the second objective Kyocera has developed a guide for users of all brands of office equipment explaining the optimum ways to configure them on order to reduce energy consumption and waste.
Tracey continues: “The Carbon Trust calculates that 15% of the energy used in an office is accounted for by office machines. If we are to help our customers and partners reduce energy consumption by the targeted 10%, this seems like an appropriate place for us to start. Kyocera has been campaigning for greater efficiency and less waste in UK offices since the launch of the Green Card network in 2001. Committing to campaigns such as 10:10 and producing the office green guide are natural extensions of our activities.”
