Kyocera Reduces CO2 Emissions

02 December 2008
Kyocera work with DHL to cut CO2 emissions

Over the past 6 months, Kyocera have been working with DHL to cut the amount of CO2 emissions and the environmental impact its operations have.

Kyocera ship on average 640 orders per month via DHL.  The DHL improvement team studied what benefits could be made both in terms of costs and the environment if the processes were made more efficient. An analysis was carried out considering pallet size and type, stack height and delivery time.

By making some significant changes, 6.43 tonnes of CO2 was saved in a 6 month period.

But what does this equate to?

The energy used for making a cup of tea is as follows:

The CO2 emitted from the ~35Wh (130kJ) of energy used to boil the water (efficiently in an upright plastic kettle) to make a cup of tea is about 15g given an average 0.43kgC02/kWh for UK grid-delivered electricity as of 2007 using UK government (DEFRA) figures.*

So the amount of CO2 saved by Kyocera's new streamlined operations equates to approximately the same as would be emitted by making 428667 cups of tea!
